Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis Guide by PsychicGengar (arthurmauk@hotmail.com) Specially made for Path B Version 1.4 Last Date Edited 19th July 2002 Contents ^^^^^^^^ I Walkthrough II Classes Guide III FAQ IV Credits V Legal VI Version History I Walkthrough ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ The game starts off with the storyline, then eventually, you'll have to answer some questions from the Fortune Teller. Those answers will make up your troops and your main character. Then more storyline will be told, until the screen gets back to Rictor and Alphonse, and you're being attacked! Battle 1 - Island ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-Berserker Soldier x 3 Tactics: This first battle is so easy you don't even have to do ANY attacking yourself, although it's better if you do. Rictor and co. will just kill the leader eventually if you don't get to him. I would just try to kill off as many Soldiers as you can, then kill the leader, if Rictor hasn't gotten to him yet. Also, I prefer to customize the options as early as possible, so the NAVI won't come up as much. Leader's Item: Francisca ************************************************************************ ************************* After the battle, you'll see the storyline, then it's back to the World Map. Check the Options, and save your game. Go up to Scabellum, and get to the next battle! Battle 2 - Scabellum ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-Wizard Soldier x 3 Tactics: Try to attack the Soldier who uses the Short Bow first. She'll go down real fast, then start attacking the other Soldiers. Don't worry, Ivanna (Guest Knight) will heal you. After the third phase, Rictor and Orson will come, and they heal even more of you. Try not to attack the Leader at all until you kill all the Soldiers. The spells actually do a lot, but you'll survive it! Leader's Item: Thunder Flare (spell) ************************************************************************ ************************* After the battle, you FINALLY get to control your troops! Equip some items on them, and change classes if necessary. I suggest you hire at least one Hawkman. Start getting Deneb Rhode now as well if you want her. I would persuade a lot of people from encounters to join me first. Train up to AT LEAST Level 2-3 until you reach the next battle... Battle 3 - Vespa ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-Archer (Cressida) Soldier x 4 Berserker x 2 Tactics: Again, pick off the Soldiers with Bows first by surrounding them, then the normal Soldiers. If you have someone who can use spells, use them against the Berserkers. Remember that Ivanna is with you this battle, and can heal your troops, but only one at a time, so don't get hurt TOO much! Actually, persuade some of the Soldiers, as they may prove useful if you're weak. Finally, try to surround the Leader. Since she's an Archer, she moves faster than Soldiers and your attacks miss more often. Try to use Ninjas to catch her up, or Thunder Flare which has an 100% accuracy. Leader's Item: Great Bow ************************************************************************ ************************* After the battle, you'll see a scene with a campfire. Then Ivanna will ask if she can join your troops. Say yes, since she is a great fighter and healer, and will prove VERY useful later on! Don't go to Vespa again until you are satisfied with your troops, and you might want some Beast Tamers with you in the next battle. Battle 4 - Vespa ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Fairy x 2 Gremlin x 2 Griffin x 3 Tactics: This time, you'll have Glycinia (a fairy) as a Guest. Always protect her by keeping Ivanna or a cleric in healing range, just in case. Finish off the Griffins first, or persuade them with your Beast Tamers. After that, go after the Gremlins or the Fairies. They are really weak, but you can hardly ever hit them unless you attack from the back! As long as you got Thunder Flare and Heal, you'll be fine. ************************************************************************ ************************* After the battle, Glycinia will ask if she can join your troops. Say yes only for her items, then either forget about her or dismiss her, although if you keep her, you'll be able to get an extra character later on. The next battle is tougher than the last few battles, and you'll need some good movers, namely Ninjas. If you have any Knights, they'll be very helpful as well, since they have high defense and Heal. So after you've done that, go to the next battle in... Battle 5 - Formido ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-Knight (Grimal) Cleric Archer x 2 Wizard Soldier x 3 Tactics: Have you got the Ninjas I told you to bring? Good. They'll be useful for getting up the castle wall. Kill anyone in your way and use someone for healing, I used Ivanna. Then go up further then kill the Wizard, then the Cleric. Remember to finish off enemies since the enemies have the Cleric this battle. If you find it too tough then kill the Cleric first, or persuade her. When you've finally killed them all then kill the Leader Knight. Leader's Item: Chain Mail Quest Book: Numida Chronology ************************************************************************ ************************* After the battle. Get the Dragon Gem Sword as a Hidden Item. For a easier time getting there, use a flyer (Hawkmen will do fine). It is a pretty good sword for starters. Keep the Ninjas you've got as the next battle will involve lots of water. A Hawkman will also be greatly useful for persuading. Trust you WILL need a healer next battle, if you've got Ninjas, since they got low defense. After all that levelling up... Battle 6 - Ardea ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Fairy x 2 Hawkman x 3 Griffin x 2 Tactics: Cybil is with you as soon as you start the battle, and she's very useful for causing damage with her AOE 5 Thunder Flare. I suggest attacking the Hawkmen first, but try persuade them instead of killing them. The Fairies cause under 10 damage with Bows and they hardly ever hit so don't worry about them until you cleared out the Griffins. They got high HP and stats so let them first get hit by Cybil's Thunder Flare, then attack from the back to finish them off since they have a very high chance of dodging, AND if you surround them, they can just fly out of the way. Try to get them into the waters if you can. ************************************************************************ ************************* OK, by this time, you should have some of your troops able to change class into Knights. They are so far the best class, since they have high defense and attack, and Heal/Cleanse/Lightning Bow. The next battle has lots of ranged attackers and fast movers, so take some Knights (yes, I know this sounds unreasonable, but as soon as you can surround one guy, then you can finish him off almost immediately!) NOTE: I would suggest saving here onto another slot if I were you, as you've got the all-important choice coming up. If you've got a really good team and you want to keep it to play on the other Path, this is the place you need to save in. Battle 7 - Urodela ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-Ninja Ninja x 5 Witch Tactics: Cybil is with you again, and the Ninjas are almost useless if you got the Knights. If they use long-ranged attacks on you and you can't quite reach them, just use Heal. My main worry here was the Witch with AOE 5 Slumber Mist, although it hardly ever hit me. I had my two Hawkmen take down the Witch first coupla phases, then I took down the Ninjas one by one. Try to spread out your troops and "squeeze" in the Ninjas. It takes a while for all of the Ninjas to be chased down, but be patient and you'll be fine! Finally, kill the Leader Ninja. He's powerful with Matsukaze equipped but with coupla Heals and so, you'll take him down quite easily. Leader's Item: Matsukaze ************************************************************************ ************************* Right, after the battle the REAL choice comes. Aboard Cybil's ship, Cybil will ask you THE question: Path A: 'I've no better ideas' Path B: 'It doesn't seem right' For now, we'll just take Path B, since lots of FAQ makers chose Path A. This means you'll get: Orson Lamies Rictor Lasanti Time Flux. All this probably makes no sense to you, but it will soon... ************************************************************************ ************************* Get the Hyacinth Fan as the Hidden Item. Also try to make most (not all!) of your troops Knights. Make the others Ninjas to chase down the Gremlins. The Dragon Gem Sword should also be equipped if you want some dragons in your team (I'm not suggesting that you should). Battle 8 - Sufrir ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Gremlin x 3 Earth Dragon x 2 Thunder Dragon x 2 Tactics: Surround a Dragon with Knights and keep attacking it. Repeat until all dragons die. Make sure to keep your troops with low defense away from the Dragons and Heal if needed. Finally, chase down the Gremlins with Bows. Try to attack from the back for greater accuracy and don't surround them since they can fly. If you have any magic users, attack with Area Effect spells since Missiles hardly ever hit and they might not reach the height the Gremlins are floating on. Hawkmen are also very useful this battle. NOTE: The main objective is to protect Orson, which should be easy enough if you don't let the Dragons near him and keep Healing if he is attacked by Gremlins. He can't do that much damage so don't depend on him to attack the enemies. ************************************************************************ ************************* After the battle, Orson will explain how he departed from Rictor and ask if he can join. Let him join but change his class immediately to Ninja. Get him to be a Knight when you've got the Emblem then change him into a Swordmaster. But if you like to keep special characters the way they are, then Orson is almost no use to you. Archers only work well on high elevation and to do that, you need Warp/Flight. I gotten my Deneb here, right after this battle, then I decided to ditch her since she was so weak, and she can only Trudge. Get some Ninjas for the next battle. Battle 9 - Arena ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-Mermaid (Minerva) Hawkman x 2 Octopus x 2 Mermaid x 3 Tactics: God this battle was so easy when I played it. My Ninjas walked right over the water and led the AI to land. My Knights were back in the water and Healed my troops when needed. Hawkmen flew right over the water. Try to attack the Hawkmen first, and persuade as many as you can, like last time. Attack the Mermaids next, but only wait until they're on land, when they're vulnerable. The Octopi are pretty powerful in water, but again, like the Mermaids, they are useless on land. Lower the Leader Mermaid's HP down, but DON'T KILL HER! If you kill her, you won't be able to get Aerial, at least that's what I heard. Anyway, you only have to lower it down a bit until she gives up and surrenders. Leader's Item: Water Ring ************************************************************************ ************************* Try not to change your classes, and level up a bit until you reach the next battle. The battle ground is water again... Battle 10 - Rana ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-Mermaid (Aerial) Octopus x 2 Fairy x 2 Mermaid x 3 Tactics: Get to the little square island. Hawkmen are VERY useful again this battle. Try to use lots of Area Effect spells to get rid of the Fairies first. They are not great but very annoying. Next try to get the Mermaid onto land and kill them. If you have Ninjas, feel free to attack them from water, but if you have Knights, getting them onto land is almost crucial. Heal if needed. The Mermaid's Lullaby is very annoying so try to get rid of them as soon as possible. Lure the Octopi onto land then surround one with troops so they can't get out. Repeat. Finally, Heal, and attack Aerial. Lower her HP considerably and she'll surrender just like Minerva! What is up with those cowardly Mermaids? ************************************************************************ ************************* After the battle Aerial asks if she can join (only if you didn't kill Minerva), and say yes. From now on, try to always say yes to anyone who asks, then loot them of equipments. Keep them or dismiss if you don't really want them. Battle 11 - Solea ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-Dragoon (Karcist) Archer x 2 Thunder Dragon Blue Dragon Red Dragon Earth Dragon Tactics: PROTECT Eleanor! Shouldn't be too hard if you get rid of the Archers first. The Dragons and the Leader Dragoon will never even REACH Eleanor! Kill of the Dragons one by one by surrounding them. High defense and healing is needed, so try to have lots of Knights for this battle. Lure the Leader around with your main character so that he doesn't try to attack the rest of your troops. After you killed the rest of the Dragons, kill the Dragoon by spells. If you don't have spells, then you have to be very patient because once he gets to critical HP, he'll start healing himself with Healing Leaves. Leader's Item: Fafnir ************************************************************************ ************************* You'll meet Eleanor again after the battle. She asks you a question, and choose A for this one! You can't control her in your team yet, but be patient and you will soon. For the next battle, even out your troops' levels and take some fast movers/flyers with you. Magic attackers who use Area Effect spells will also love it here! Battle 12 - Aquila ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Red Dragon x 2 Gremlin x 2 Hawkman x 2 Cerberus Tactics: A Hawkman is, once again, very useful. You're fighting on top of an volcano! Try to take a defensive position and loosen up your troops. The Gremlins and the Hawkmen come straight up at you so kill them off first, in the order that you like. Persuading the Hawkmen is always a good tactic. Next the Cerberus should come up the volcano. Surround him and try to stay out of his Mesmerize range. If they make you go asleep, use a spell/item to get them back. Using a weak character to wake them up by hitting them is not a bad idea as well. The Red Dragons are probably still trying to get up the volcano so just get down there yourself. While that's happening, weaken them with some spells. Try not to use Fire Element spells. Quest Book: Epic of Tinea ************************************************************************ ************************* After the battle (yes I do know how many times I've used that line) there is a looooooooooooooong story, then finally, Eleanor asks to join you. Say Yes and level her up. She will do great as a Valkyrie/Priest! Then you get the choice of the two towns to go to. Go down first, to fight the optional battle. You might want a Cleric with Faith/Exorcism, but I didn't have one at the time, so don't worry if you don't have one either. Battle 13 - Gryllus ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Undead Wizard x 2 Undead Soldier x 4 Ghost x 2 Tactics: This is your first encounter with the Undeads. Lemme explain what they do. After they've been killed, they will stay in the same place, but in a "unconscious" position. But after a few turns, they will resurrect and attack you again! But the good thing is that they have halved their original HP, so they are more vulnerable. They can resurrect a million times and remain not dead. The first time I played this battle, I didn't have Faith or Exorcism. I just killed them off one by one, and when they resurrected, I killed them again. This took a long time (9 phases). The second time, my Deneb had Faith, and I used it whenever I killed an Undead. But somehow, more of them returned every phase, appearing at the edges of the battleground. It may just be a glitch but that took even longer (11 phases), so I suggest you not to use Faith. I'll try out Exorcism soon and see what they do. You can only win this battle if you kill all of them at the same time, or used the banishing spells. So, finally, the tactics to beating this battle. I am just pretending that you're not using Faith or Exorcism and just killing them off one by one. If you have those spells, try to use them only at the end of the phase. Kill the Undead Wizards first, then the Undead Soldiers. Attack the Ghosts with all your forces and keep two troops around it to be safe, just in case they resurrect and attack. Rememeber, the Ghosts can warp, so there is no way to trap them. Now just kill all the Undeads that has risen again and you've won this battle! ************************************************************************ ************************* After the battle, get out your gear again cos we're gonna fight another battle with the Undeads! Battle 14 - Blete ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units Leader-Shaman (Euphaire) Warlock Zombie Dragon Undead Wizard x 2 Undead Knight x 3 Tactics: Right, again, we have to fight the Undead. But this time the rules have changed. You don't have to defeat all of them, you have to kill the Leader Shaman! So what I suggest you do is not to waste time fighting the Undeads, but concentrate on the ALIVE characters since the Undead won't even give you any items! Go after the Warlock first, and if you can, persuade him for his items. He'll only give you a Sword Emblem if he dies, so it's much better that way. Then, it's just the matter of getting up to the Leader. Try not to use spells on her, since she has high magical defense, and she'll be killed in 2-4 attacks with a decent weapon! One thing I haven't mentioned this battle is that the Leader has the Salamander summon. I prefer to let my characters bunched up so she can only attack lots of my troops, while not causing too much damage. Leader's item: Salamander (Summon) ************************************************************************ ************************* After the battle, Euphaire offers to join you. Say OK and use her if you wish. The next battle got lots of beasts, so if you want some, I suggest you get some Beast Tamers. That Cassowary Feather you got from Rana will be useful too. Battle 15 - Vespa ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-Beast Tamer (Surgit) Cockatrice x 2 Griffin x 2 Cerberus x 3 Tactics: I suggest attacking the Cockatrices first, since when they power up their magic, they can Petrify your troops. The Cerberus are quite powerful as well, with a chance to cause Sleep. Try to lure the Beasts away from the Beast Tamer, since the Beasts are really powerful with the Beast Tamer 3 panels around them. A Healer is very useful as well here. The Leader is nothing to worry about, since he's got really low defense. The only main worry here are the Status-Effecting Beasts. Leader's Item: Beast Whip ************************************************************************ ************************* The next battle has similar structure to the Formido battle. Ninjas are a bit outdated now, but Hawkmen are still useful. A good Valkyrie with Area Effect spells will be useful too. Battle 16 - Belleza ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-Summoner (Elrik) Witch x 2 Valkyrie x 2 Ninja x 3 Tactics: As you noticed, all the enemies here are Female, so a Male troop with the Arbitration Emblem is really useful. First, get the Ninja with the Warp Shoes. Kill her and she'll drop it, or persuade her. Next, kill off the Witches. They are very annoying with Fluid Magic for the Leader, and lots of Status Effecting spells! The Ninjas are next, but some of them go along the walls, so a good Hawkman should be used to take them down. The Valkyries are stronger than all the other enemies, so take care while killing them. Altogether, this battle shouldn't be too hard, owing to the fact that most enemies have low defense. The Leader isn't a worry either, since he can't move too far, can't hit too hard, and got low defense. But he does have the Fenrir Summon so that's why you have to take care of the Witches first, without them supplying too much MP for him. Leader's Item: Fenrir (Summon) ************************************************************************ ************************* The Male troops you used in Belleza is useful again. The next battle is full of Females, so this is a real nice time to persuade them. A very fast mover (such as a Ninja) will be useful as well, but only bring one! (I'll tell you why soon) Again, a Healer is useful. Use that Warp Shoes that you got to your full advantage by equipping it on a Trudger. If you don't have one, equip it on your main character. He'll find it even easier to kill people! Battle 17 - Naja ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-Siren (Grevis) Witch Cleric Soldier Wizard x 2 Knight x 2 Tactics: Again, kill off the Magic Supplier first, in this case, a Witch, again. This is why I told you to bring a fast mover. Get to her first without others attacking, but since fast movers have low defense, only bring one. The Cleric is really annoying so kill her off next. Then, kill off the two Wizards before they powerup til they have enough MP to attack with their spells. By this time the Knights should be slowly advancing. Try to persuade them if you can, since they have very good equipment and they will be hard to kill, since one has Heal and the other Cleanse. The Soldier is just in the battle for cannon fodder. The Leader Siren will be easy to kill once you get to her, she got very low defense. Try to beat this stage quickly, otherwise the Leader Siren will use the Gnome Summon. It is quite powerful, and try to bunch your characters together, so if she does use Gnome, it'll hit all of them, instead of hitting only one, and causing around 100 damage! Leader's Item: Gnome (Summon) ************************************************************************ ************************* Level up a bit more. If you got Elrik, I suggest changing him into the Earth element now for him to use that Summon Golem to his full advantage. Equip the Gnome summon on him if you do so. Battle 18 - Sotavento ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-Esquire (Nichart) Priest Witch Knight x 2 Valkyrie x 3 Tactics: You have really got to watch out for this battle. The three Valkyries give the Male enemies' biorhythm a giant boost! Also, the Priest has Resurrection spell, which gets the knocked out characters back on their feet! Get at least two Valkyries in your team before you start the game, so you can persuade the other Valkyries. This is almost essential since if you kill them, the Priest will resurrect them. So if you want an easier time, fly/warp to the Priest and persuade or kill him after you persuaded the Valkyries. The Knights have good defense, and will take quite a beating before they fall. The Witch at the end won't give you that much trouble, and if she uses Ray of Paralysis, just use Cleanse. Don't bunch up waiting for her to use it! The Leader also has strong defense, and that Ospric's Spear can hit two in a row, so watch out for that. All in all, try to persuade as many characters you can. ************************************************************************ ************************* By now, you should've definitely got all your troops successfully upgraded. The next battle is very rough, and has lots of enemies that has high defense. Watch out for those! To get yourself prepared, try to get some Valkyries. They can cast magic spells, and can move a lot faster than the usual magic users. Ranged attackers will also be useful, but if you use those, remember to stay OUT of range! On a final note: don't bring any undeads here! So on we march to... Battle 19 - Haena ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-Duke Knight Dragon Tamer Earth Dragon Duke Knight x 3 Dragoon x 2 Tactics: Try to kill the Dragon Tamer first, so that the Earth Dragon don't get that biorhythm boost. Without the Dragon Tamer, the Dragon will be easy to defeat, especially if you use Fafnir or a Dragoon against it. Next try to kill any character in one phase! This HAS to be one phase otherwise the Duke Knights will just Heal the next round! Keep chipping away at the Dragoon's HP, then persuade both of them. They have well wicked equipment and will serve fine for the Dragoon+NOR combo. (If you don't know what I'm talking about, see FAQ section) Finally, get rid of the others. NOTE: Try to attack the Dragoons and Duke Knights without actually letting them counterattack. Their counterattack is often even stronger than your attack! Area Effect spells are just one way of avoiding this. Leader's Item: Gram ************************************************************************ ************************* Straight after the battle, go to Rana. There you will find Choleri. She talk for a little bit, then she gives you the Zephyrus! (Thanks a lot to my editor, King02 for this info!) It is quite possibly your strongest weapon right now. If you have Glycinia, then go on to Battle 20 WITH her in your party. If not, just advance to Ostorea. Battle 20 - Gracula ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Cockatrice Cerberus x 2 Red Dragon x 2 Gremlin x 3 Tactics: I was thinking of putting this as a NOTE: but I was afraid that you guys might read it too late. There is a Gremlin in this battle that is named "Lubinnya". Don't kill her! She is actually the sister of Glycinia! If you kill her, then you won't be able to get her. So wait until you killed every EXCEPT Lubinnya and do this: Let Glycinia go up to Lubinnya and attack her. On the next enemy phase, she'll go all weird and pop out of the Gremlin costume! OK, now on with the tactics. Try to bring some flyers or warpers into this battle. The terrain will be very useful for them. Floaters can actually float on some of the lava! Try to kill the Gremlins first if you can (Remember NOT to kill Lubinnya!) since they can be very annoying at times. Then it's just basically the matter of who comes towards you first. The Cockatrice can Stone you, the Cerberus can Sleep, and The Red Dragons can Confuse. Take your choice. If you have Purify or Cleanse, then this battle will be a snap! ************************************************************************ ************************* The next few battles are in a castle. Inside a castle there will be a place where you have to split up your troops. The troops who are placed in one side will NOT be able to be used on the other side. This makes the battle a lot harder than it usually is. I suggest to even up the strengths and weaknesses so that it won't be too easy on one side, and too hard on the other. The way to split your troops up for Ostorea Castle are: Ostorea West: Deploy some flyers/warpers here. Healers are absolutely ESSENTIAL! Knights are the best for this round since they have high defense, plus the fact that they can Heal whenever they need it! Valkyries and Swordmasters will face a tough challenge here, since they have low defense. If you do have a summoner, get a Warlock with a status effect spell+fluid magic. I would suggest for you to fight this bit first, so put your main character here. This battle is harder than the other. Ostorea South: Healers are not essential, but again very useful. This the the place for Dragoons and SMs! They absolutely rule here! Careful of Lethe though. Battle 21 - Ostorea West ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-Female Swordmaster (Margret) Warlock Hawkman x 2 Duke Knight x 2 Archer x 2 Tactic: God this battle is so hard! The Archers especially pick on the magic users and healers! They are also on very high elevation so they can hit anywhere they want and still cause massive damage! The Hawkmen will start attacking on the second turn. Try to bring at least one Hawkman into this battle. Attack the Hawkmen, then persuade both of them. That will make the battle a lot easier. After you persuaded the Hawkmen, send your own Hawkman up onto the Castle to attack the Archers. For an easier time attacking the Archer, kill off the Duke Knight with Heal Plus. He is really annoying. If you can't, then attack the Warlock and persuade him. Don't even bother attacking the Archers from up front, they have amazing Agility so you'll miss every time. I wouldn't really bother persuading the Archers actually, but after that, just start on attacking the Leader. The Duke Knights only drop a Saint's Shield and Sum Mannus anyway, not too useful. NOTE: The Swordmaster Leader has a special technique called Atropos. This is VERY dangerous! To normal characters it does around 150, and to magic users even more! Stay away! Leader's Item: Notos Special Technique Learnt: Atropos ************************************************************************ ************************* After the battle, you'll actually be given the special technique Atropos. I always give it to my main character. Equip him with a Snapdragon sword and he'll do massive damage with it. Time to go back to... Battle 22 - Ostorea South ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-Esquire (Nichart) Venefica (Lethe) Siren x 2 Witch Priest Duke Knight x 2 Tactic: As you can see, most of the characters here use magic so they'll have low defense. Start by attacking from the right side, killing off the Witch and Siren on the way. Don't bother with the Duke Knights, they'll be killed later. Next move on to the Venifica, Lethe. Do not even attempt to attack her with magic. She has such high resistance that it will bounce right off. She talk for a bit when she's gone, then poof! Off she goes in a Transferring Stone. If you have the time, skip the Leader, and go towards the Priest and the other Siren. The Priest DOES have Divine Radiance, mind you, so she's a bit dangerous, but it hardly even hit anyway. The way to counter it is to have someone Full Heal. Then if you're in for a bit of fun, start attacking the Duke Knights. Then it's just a matter of time before you get bored of killing them and start on the Leader, right? Leader's Item: Ospric's Spear (Yep, still not as useful as the Zephyrus!) ************************************************************************ ************************* Finally! You get all eight of your troops back! But don't rejoice yet! You still got two more battles to go til the end of the Ostorea Castle! As soon as you get to the Throne Room and you can control the game again, start organising your troops! You won't get another chance til the next battle so make sure you do! Battle 23 - Throne Room ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-High Priest (Rictor) Witch Wizard x 2 Knight x 2 (Justin and Lara) Duke Knight x 2 Tactic: The Witch is the magic supplier, so kill her first. She'll go down in at most three hits, then kill the Wizards. If you can kill Justin or Lara before, then kill them first. Don't worry about the Duke Knights until you've done all of that. One of the Duke Knights have the Warp Ring and it is definitely a good item to pick up! Rictor has a summon (Ignis Fatuus) and if the Witch powers him up, he'll use it a lot. A way to counter this is to use an Angel Knight's Banish, which isn't usually very useful but is useful now. Leader's Item: Ignis Fatuus (summon) ************************************************************************ ************************* OK, this is it! This is the final battle in the Ostorea Castle! The next battle is a LOT harder than the Path A counterpart, but you chose this path, and you gotta suffer for it! The only way to get through the next battle is to have luck, skill, and a variety of both classes of low and high defense. When you're ready, you may start... Battle 24 - Crypt ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-General (Naris) Priest Knight x 2 Duke Knight x 4 (!) Tactic: As soon as you enter the stage, you can see that the enemy has FOUR Duke Knights! These guys are the best classes in the whole game, and with Priests as healers, they are going to take a VERY hard beating to get them down! That Divine Radiance spell is sooooo useful here, make sure you got someone to power them up though. And suspend the game since its success rate is so low. If you try to get to the Priest, the other troops will try to block you, so the best way through is to use flyers/warpers. Once you kill her, start killing/persuading the Knights. Attack them in any order you wish, but the best way I find is to start with the Knight with Heal then work towards the other when you've finished. After you got through that very tough bit, it's on to the even harder bit, to kill the Duke Knights. The guys with the Trident and the Great Bow shouldn't be much of a problem, but the guys with the Sword of Tiamat and Laevateinn is gonna be quite the problem. This is actually a bit of the game where Resurrection is actually quite handy! After the Duke Knights have gone, the General also has super-high defense! That Bloody Cleaver does loads of damage, and Hell's Gate can cause Sleep, so make sure you have Cleanse/Purify with you. Leader's Item: Bloody Cleaver Quest Book: Cave Exploration ************************************************************************ ************************* Another chapter gone so fast, eh? Rictor decides to join you after this battle, so let him in. As soon as you're on the world map again, go to Solea. There you'll find Eleanor with a question. She'll give you an item. After that, go to Ardea for a chance to meet with Lobelia, the Angel Knight messenger from God. If you say yes, she'll join, but it you say no, she'll give you a Seraph's Plume. I suggest saying yes to her, and then stripping her and snapping/dismissing her since I prefer Saia, but it's a matter of personal choice anyway. Lots of people at GameFAQs message boards asks me this, "Where do you use SnapDragons?" Well, the ideal way to use SnapDragons are to train up until level 50, then use it. But this is the place to start snapping characters if you're like me, impatient, because you can get lots of new characters here. (Lobelia, Saia, and Rictor) If you want them in your party, then you need to get someone out, and that is when you should check their stats and decide if you should snap them. Battle 25 - Rebanada ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-??? (Rimmon) Undead Knight x 2 Dragon Zombie x 2 Ghost x 3 Tactic: More undeads, eh? Welll, don't worry about those, they're pathetic. Just take your time and chip away at the Leader's HP. It'll take a while, but it's all worth it. Summons and spells work a lot better than attacks, so try to use those if you can. If you have a healer, then use Atrops and Heal him again. Sure, the Self-Damage is more than the damage you caused, but as long as you can heal, you'll be fine. Rictor with that Lightning Bow will also help you out here. Leader's Item: Goblin Helm (Make sure this goes onto someone good. It has lots of good bonuses) ************************************************************************ ************************* If you have a Priest/Cleric for healing, and you want a Lich, this is the place to start making him Chaotic. The next battle has Saia with Enfeeble, and equipped on a Lich, it can cause massive damage! And soon, you'll be able to get Fiend's Grip which is also great on a Lich. Don't worry, you still got Rictor for healing, right? After you organised your team, go back to Rebanada for a chance to meet Saia, the Lesser Daemon. Battle 26 - Rebanada ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-Lesser Daemon (Saia) Vrtra x 2 Hawkman x 2 Gorgon x 3 Tactic: Again, the enemy units have higher stats than yours. One of the Vrtras drop a SnapDragon scroll when they die, so try to kill both of them. I wouldn't really bother killing any of the others, except the Gorgon with Rapture Rose. But if you do want to kill them, start by killing the Gorgons. They are very annoying when then power up to use Evil Eye. If you've got lots of amulets then that's fine. The Hawkmen are next, since they got lower defense. The Vrtras you should kill with Dragoons, Fafnirs, and Swords of Tiamats, but if you're good enough, try killing them without. The Leader has Enfeeble, which is annoying because he can actually heal himself while doing damage as well. Try to avoid him until the end. That Earth Dragon Axe is also quite dangerous, and it is the Leader's preferred weapon, so watch out. Leader's Item: Earth Dragon Axe ************************************************************************ ************************* If you haven't got Lobelia in your team, then Saia will ask to join you. If you say yes, then he'll join, but if you say no, then he'll give you a Ring of the Dead. Battle 27 - Harmonia ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-Venefic (Cirvante) Leader-Venefica (Lethe) Giant x 2 Gorgon x 2 Daemon x 2 Tactic: The first guy should try to kill is the Venefic, Cirvante. This is because he has Fiend's Grip, an awesome spell that can cause massive damage! The next guys you should go after are the Gorgons but they might try to run away from you, since they can only attack you with bows. The Giants are very simple to beat, just surround one and keep attacking. They have low agility so you can block most of the attacks, and Titan Crush hardly ever hits. One of the Daemon has Ring of the Dead, so be sure to collect that after he dies. Boreas is also an useful weapon. Don't worry too much about Lethe, she's terrible even with magic, and is only useful when passing MP to Cirvante. Leaders' Item: Fiend's Grip (spell), Sugar Cane ************************************************************************ ************************* By now you should definitely have had a Snapdragon. If not, do it now! As you enter Charadrius, Cybil punches you and poisons you! Then she goes psycho under the influence of the demon spirit! Batle 28 - Charadrius ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-Sorceress (Cybil) Witch Wizard Vrtra Daemon x 2 Angel Knight x 2 Tactic: The first thing you should do is to use an Antidote on your main character. Take someone fast with you and move towards the Witch. She has the Bath B only Time Flux spell and it is sooo useful at times! Then kill the Wizard, shouldn't be much trouble. Now if you want a bit of fun, try persuading both Angel Knights, or that Vrtra. If not, kill them all! The Daemons are stronger than the rest and takes a while to kill them, but they'll be down on the ground soon. Don't worry about Cybil, just that she has the Thunderbird summon and will do loadsa damage if she singles out your troops. Just bunch 'em up and she'll end up doing damage to all of 'em, and sharing out the damage. Leader's Item: Thunderbird (summon) ************************************************************************ ************************* After the battle, you'll receive the Longiculnis, which can pierce Shaher's sacred barrier. This is the strongest weapon in the game you'll ever get, excluding Snapdragons. This means that you are very near the end of this game. The next stop is Angel's Headstone, and it is a castle just like Ostorea Castle. If you have any stat boosting items, now is the time to use it, since there is no point saving them up now. Save here, since there will be no pit stop along the way, other than suspending the game. After an hour of organising, let's go!!! Battle 29 - Angel's Headstone ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-Lich Daemon Wizard Zombie Dragon Undead Knight x 2 Ghost x 2 Tactic: The Leader this round is a Lich, which means that he has INSANE defense! He also has the Fiend's Grip spell, and without Atropos, I really doubt you'll survive this battle. The Zombie Dragon has a Necklace of Resist, so he won't be affected by your spells. There is absolutely no point in killing the other enemies, since they won't drop any items, and can be resurrected. But if you find the buggers too annoying, then feel free to use Faith/Exorcism/Banish. They'll be dead and gone very quickly. I suggest attacking from both sides, since otherwise the Lich will try to escape, wasting more precious time. The Daemon is the only guy that drops an item, but it's only a puny Urn of Chaos. ************************************************************************ ************************* Next, you have to split your troops again! Hall of Corruption or Garden of Memories? Garden of Memories: Here you have to fight Judecca, a Bane Angel Knight as the Leader. The enemies in here are stronger than the ones in Hall of Corruption. Put your main character here, along with Eleanor and other troops since this is harder and you need every troop you can get. Hall of Corruption: Here you have to fight Rahouart, a Virtue Daemon as the Leader. Not much damage is done here, so just put the rest of your troops here. It's real easy. Battle 30 - Garden of Memories ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-Angel Knight (Bane element, Judecca) Giant Warlock x 2 Daemon x 2 Angel Knight x 2 Tactic: First, I need to tell you something. All the things you get in Angel's Headstone Castle will not be there in your save file. It will only be there on your suspended data. So if you persuade a character here, or get an item there, it will only be of any use in your next battle. It will NOT be in the save file, OK? So for that reason, I can't be bothered to kill all the enemies. The enemies here are really annoying, not dangerous. The Warlock each have great Support spells, and one of the Angel Knight have a Cresente, a Virtue Element bow. They can also fly away and heal themselves. Judecca is also an Angel Knight, so she is really annoying too. The best way to kill her is not to wound her as much as possible, it's actually to deal a decent amount of damage, yet not too much so she doesn't fly away and heal. There is no way of trapping her, so you just have to be patient! ************************************************************************ ************************ Okay, let's go on to the Hall of Corruption! Battle 31 - Hall of Corruption ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-Daemon (Virtue element, Rahouart) Vrtra Swordmaster x 2 Dark Angel x 2 Gorgon x 2 Tactic: The Hall of Corruption has a very weird terrain, a giant hole in the middle, so watch out for that. One of the Dark Angel carries a Freude Helm, so no Bane attacks can effect him, but he doesn't drop it when he dies! The Gorgons carries Bows, but they're not on very high elevation, so they're not that dangerous. The Leader Rahouart is not that strong, and any decent character can take him out very quickly. DON'T split your troops this time, just go to the side that Rahouart is going, so you can take him down faster. Warpers and flyers can clear that hole in one, so why not bring some? ************************************************************************ ************************* Yep, you have to fight the Fallen Angel, Shaher next! Battle 32 - Hall of Conviction ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-Fallen Angel (Shaher) Dark Angel x 2 (Cirvante & Lethe) Angel Knight x 2 Daemon x 3 Tactic: This is the place to let it all out! It's the second last battle, so just try and kill the boss, Shaher! Don't worry about the other guys. Also, try to heal near the last move, since in the next battle, you'll be left with whoever you had in this battle! Shaher has three very powerful spells, and Atropos is DEFINITELY needed. Equip the guy with a Snapdragon, and a warp/flight item since Shaher can warp our of your way to heal himself. Firecrests and healing is also very helpful here. Just don't attack the other enemies, and chip away at Shaher's HP. Patience is needed here and you might want to use some resurrections to help if one of your character dies. Leader's Item: Anbicion (Power 68) ************************************************************************ ************************* Now that you've fought the Fallen Angel part of Shaher, you have to move on to the next battle and the last, you have to fight the Sacred Demon Shaher! Battle 33 (Final) - Shaher's World ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enemy Units: Leader-Sacred Demon (Shaher) Hell Gigante x 2 Dark Stalker x 2 Tactic: Before the battle, you get a chance to organise your troops again (Thank god!). The best equipment you can give to your main character is Snapdragon+Firecrests x 3+Atropos. You also NEED to put the Longiculnis on someone fast but with higher defense than a fairy/Ninja. A Swordmaster would be the ideal choice. I suggest only taking down ONE of the Shaher's minions. This is because if you kill two of them, Shaher will send more down. Some people like to kill his minions for Shaher to waste a move on making more, but I just prefer to attack Shaher, and if he makes Predators, then the battle is gonna be even harder to beat. The first thing you need to do is to get your guy with Longiculnis across to Shaher and break his barrier. Since Path B doesn't have Teleport, use Time Flux! It doesn't work as well, but it's still a bonus! Then you have to work out your formation. My Favourite Formation is: @A--- AHM-- -M--- ----- ----- @ = Shaher A = Attackers (Mine) H = Healer (Usually Rictor or Priest) M = Magic Users (Mine) - = Anybody I hardly ever get this formation in place, and it's gonna be hard for you too, but if you have to heal one of Shaher's minions, then do! It's not gonna hurt you that much. The attackers always have high Strength, which is always my main character with Atropos and another guy. The healer heals everyone, and the magic users use magic to keep the minions at bay (but not killing them!) Of course, I have other people too, but they're not that important. They're just wandering around for cannon fodder really. His Day of Reckoning spell is really tough, so Pearl Necklaces/Dragon Eyes and Cleanse/Purify is your next best friend. NOTE: Shaher will attack twice each phase once you hit him with the Longiculnis. Watch out! ************************************************************************ ************************* This part of the Guide is done, but I might be making more sections. Watch out for those! II Classes Guide ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ After I finished the Path B Walkthrough, I decided to put in a Classes Guide, basically cos I thought I needed to add some more stuff to my guide. Yeah, I know that there are loads of guides on classes on the web, but hey, how's mine? Check it out... Section 1: Classes that are both sexes ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Yep, I couldn't find a fancy word that nobody else have used to describe these sort of classes, so I just stuck to the basics! These guys can be, as the name suggests, both sexes. The only main thing to separate these from others are that only HUMAN classes can be these. Got that? Some of them are pretty powerful, and others not so much. They usually are overtaken by other classes eventually though. Soldier 2/10 ~~~~~~~~~~~~ III FAQ ^^^^^^^ Q: What class should I make my main character (Alphonse)? A: My favourite class to make my main character is the Swordmaster. But if you want tips, here they are: Swordmaster: Pelting Fury is a great ranged attack. Swallow's Daze is not too useful. Swordmaster have long movement range, and have even, steady stat bonuses, even if the defense is just a bit low. Slap on Purify/Fluid Magic then he'll be awesome! My fave! Dragoon: If you want to make one, check out the question under this. High physical stats but very low magical stats. The Missile spell slot is not very useful. Lower movement range than the SM. Warlock: Many people say that Barren Soul is the greatest move made. I've never actually gotten myself a Warlock. He's got low movement range and the two Support spell slot is not TOO useful. He can't use offensive magic, which is a real shame. He can Walk, so he's OK... Q: What do you suggest to make an item/class combo? A: I actually have two good combos. I haven't tried out the Dragoon+Necklace of Resist yet, but I'm sure it'll be great. 1) Dragoon+Necklace of Resist. The Necklace of Resist you can get from Urodela, from a female Ninja. Equip it on any class that doesn't use magic or have low magical stats (Dragoons work best with this) and he won't be effected by any magic. The bad side to this is that he can't be healed so take care and increase his HP! 2) Archer/Priest+Warp/Flight. Common sense really. Take a low defense class such as a Priest. Equip with Lightning Bow and Warp Shoes. Get onto high elevation and shoot arrows down into enemies. Heal Plus works good too. I found this combo when I was exploring Ostorea Castle. Q: What is your fave spell? A: My favourite spell is definitely Heal Plus. It heals around 100-200 HP and have AOE 5. Useful! Q: What is your fave class? A: My favourite class is (surprisingly!) the Valkyrie! It can use offensive magic, snow-walk, and the fact that it can also fight pretty well! It's movement range is high for a Female Class too! Q: What is different between Path A and B? A: This question is asked millions of times. The answers are: In Path A, you get Shiven after Bison, Cybil after Ostorea, and Teleport on a Swordmaster in Haena. You get to fight lots of different battles, the one to note is in the Crypt in Ostorea Castle, where you fight Rictor. In Path B, you get Orson after Sufrir, Rictor after Ostorea, and Time Flux on a Witch in Charadrius. You get to fight lots of different battles, the one to note is in the Crypt in Ostorea Castle, where you fight Naris. Q: How do you define a "good" class or a "bad" class? A: To me, a "good" class is a class that has a high movement range, and a movement type that is not Trudging. Movement is everything to me, since you can increase the stats, but you can't change the movement range that high. Trudging is also the worst movement type! If you want a Trudger, then the best way to make it good is to give it warp/flight. Q: What's a nice "order" of attacking the enemies? A: I always find this order very useful and effective: Always attack the suppliers first. This means someone who has Fluid Magic, or someone who can use healing spells. This cuts off the magic/health supplies of the enemies. If the supplier has high defense, skip him and go on to the next. Then attack the magic users. They usually have low defense as well, and are actually very deadly when powered up, so waste no time getting to them! After that, attack the other guys with low defense, such as Ninjas, Archers. If you're in a weird terrain (very high-very low) such as Formido, Belleza, or Ostorea, then kill the characters with warp/flight abilities. This stops them from escaping to higher ground, so they can Heal with Healing Items. If the enemy has someone with usable bonuses, kill them. For example, the enemy has a Beast Tamer, and loads of Beasts, so kill the Beast Tamer first. This also works with Valkyries with Males, and Dragon Tamers with Dragons. Do NOT attempt this when fighting Surgit in Vespa! Attack the high defensed enemies, such as Knights. Surround them and keep attacking so that he can't escape. Finally, kill off the Leader.
